Distressed Vanity

We found this vanity at a garage sale and decided to use it in the house for a display of our country dishes. I painted it with a distressed look and added some French material to the seat.

Baby Birds

We couldn't resist yesterday taking these photos of the mother feeding one of her babies. They are getting so loud now and we know it's about time they will be leaving their nest. It's been a National Geographic moment.

Birds in the Garden

Photos by Jody Gabara

Everyday in our garden is a new surprise. We saw a mother feeding her babies today.

Teapot

Found this teapot at a swap meet and attached a brooch to it for some whimsy. Now it holds my jute and scissors.

Mosaic Desk

This was an old desk that I thought would look good with a mosaic design.  I bought plates at garage sales and thrift stores.  I loved the way it turned out.  What do you think?

Statuary

Statues give you that old world look when aged. The longer they're outside, they will start to grow moss on them. Your garden will take on that mediterranean design.

Stamped Pots

These are biodegradable seed starting pots. I stamped them until I am ready to use them. Just put soil, then seeds and when it's time to transplant, set pot in ground. They're made of peat and wood fiber. They come in all different sizes, the perfect choice for all your seedlings.

Picket Fence Table

Stan designed this potting table in my flower garden, I use it all the time. He added tiles for the trim. He made me the bench for a birthday present about 15 years ago. The birdhouses was a great touch.

Signs

I found this welcome sign about 10 years ago. I can't believe how long it has lasted outside. It is on our trail up to the miniature garden. It was a great find.

Plant Tags

My sister Charmaine thought of this idea. After I painted the markers, I glued on the scrabble letters. It's a fun and simple project for the garden or as a gift. This could be a little present for "Mothers Day". Scrabble anyone?

Patterns

Stan took this photo yesterday in the morning when the fog in San Diego was so thick. The cob web patterns on the mobile added to the illusion of spinning.

Garden Fairies

When decorating with your garden fairies, they don't have to be used only outside. I found these cute little domes and thought under a bigger dome would be just the right display in the kitchen window...

Mirrors

Mirrors add an illusion of depth when needed. In small areas of your backyard, it can add an element of surprise. It makes me think of "Alice in Wonderland and the Looking Glass".

You can also add garland and collectables around it to reflect a garden home.

Bird Cage

I went to Rogers Gardens in Corona Del Mar and they had displayed their bird cages with empty pots. I thought it was a clever idea. Sometimes they have plants in them but, then you have to water. If your bird cage is hard to reach, this is a perfect solution.

Water Features

We had gone to a garden show and saw a similar fountain there. It  inspired Stan to make it out of copper and brass and he pounded leaves to have it cascade down. At night, it sounds like we're next to a river.

Having a water feature in your backyard adds a relaxing atmosphere and gives you a place to escape.
