~Garden Party Cheesecake and Simple & Sweet Fridays #63~

I wanted to make Stan a special cake for his birthday, which was on May 10th. I thought we could celebrate it on Mother's Day because he was out of town. We had his mother over and a girlfriend's family over too. I know his number one love is gardening so, I knew I wanted to decorate the cake with a "Garden Theme".
I made a cheesecake
and I found lots of miniatures to decorate with.
I made the garden tools out of different color chocolates.
I found a mold that was perfect.
The candy rocks I found at a bakery.
I found these pots and potting table at a miniature store.
They looked perfect on the cake.
How cute is the garden hose and little rabbit?
I made these seed packets out of chocolate too.
Everyone loved the cake especially, Stan.
We had a wonderful meal, enjoying each others company.
I hope you all had a wonderful
Mother's Day with your families too!

Happy Thursday everyone!

  14. Hi Jody & Stan...thank you for coming over to Beauty In The Ordinary and joining...always lovely to have a new follower. As requested, here is the recipe for the rhubarb cake:

I cup flour + 1/2 tsp baking powder and soda and 1/4 tsp salt. 2oz (1/2 stick) unsalted butter + 2/3 cup sugar. 1 egg + half tsp vanilla. Either 1/2 cup butter milk OR 1/2 tsp white vinegar and enough milk to make up to 1/2 cup. 6oz fruit (berries, rhubarb, apple) - go wild.

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, add vanilla and egg and beat until incorporated. Stir in 1/3 flour mixture, half of sour milk/buttermilk, 1/3 flour mixture, rest of sour milk/buttermilk, then rest of flour. Spread mixture into a buttered/floured spring form pan and spread fruit on top. Sprinkle with 1 to 1-1/2 tbsp of sugar and bake 400 degree oven until browned on top and knife comes out clean from centre. Anywhere from 25 to 35 minutes. Blueberries or raspberries generally take 25 mins, rhubarb took 35. Happy Baking!

What a fabulous cake for a gardener, not only can you eat the seed packets, but you can lick the sweet stuff from the pots as well. OOOH, I wish I didn't have to paint today, for I could spend the entire afternoon on this site and those you recommend. I guess I will sneek peeks throughout the day. Great to meet you!
