~DIY Mosaic China Heart, Rain Boots & Paris Coloring Book and Simple & Sweet Fridays #202~

I've been wanting to make a mosaic china heart for a

Valentine's Day project.

I bought a porcelain heart last year and then I dropped it and it broke in half.

When I looked through all my things for Valentine's, I came across it again and thought why not glue it together.

I've been collecting china plates and had the perfect one for this project.

I had some pink paint for the background.

First, I cut the pieces with tile cutters.

Always use protective glasses and gloves.

I figured out where I wanted the china pieces to go.

I painted the heart and let it dry for about 30 minutes.

Then, I glued down the pieces with Adhesive Grout,

let it dry for about 1 hour.

Filled in the heart with the Adhesive Grout and added white pearls.

It's a easy project for the Winter months.

I found some cute garden boots today at Target.

With all the rain we had in San Diego, they were perfect.

I also put my name down on a list at Anthropologie to get Free Christmas trees after the holiday.

They called and I picked them up and will

use them this coming Christmas!!

It was a cold rainy week in San Diego.

So, I bought a Paris coloring book to past the time.

~Our New Years Miracle for Maggie~

Our New Year's Miracle

We wanted to share our joy for the new year in 2016 that affected our fourth child Maggie, our dog. Unfortunately before Christmas she became very lethargic, didn't eat (very unusual) and didn't look herself. We had the same situation in June last year and it turned out to be a major surgery to remove her thymus. This time when we brought her into the doctor's office there were indications of another problem and they noticed another growth. In follow up radiology the prognosis wasn't good, cancer in the spleen and liver. We were devastated, but in discussions with the fantastic doctors at the Escondido Animal Urgent Care (Dr. Karen Seibold) and our pet surgeon Dr. Tracy Frey of SoftSurg, they believed there was a good chance to perform surgery and have another successful outcome. They agreed to perform surgery on New Year's Eve Day to remove her spleen and we were able to take her home on New Year's Day.

After an agonizing week we finally got the results from the laboratory that everything was OK after multiple tests. Based on the experience of Dr. Frey and Dr. Seibold they believed there was more than a disappointing outcome as suggested by others. They discussed in great detail their findings and feelings in similar situations over the years and were optimistic that there was still considerable hope for Maggie. With their encouragement we were blessed with a successful surgery and benign results as to the tumors removed.

How's that for a New Year's Miracle.

We were elated and thanked God and our friends for listening to all our prayers and for supporting the things that are important to us in our lives, whatever that might be.

Our Maggie is doing just great and just

had her first walk today with Stan.

Miracles can happen!

~Vintage Window Calendar for 2016 and Simple & Sweet Fridays #201~

Carly, our daughter, came up with this idea to make a 2016 calendar with a vintage window!

She loves repurposing anything old.

If you have a vintage window and don't know what to do with it,

using it for a calendar is a great project!

She started by cutting pieces of different colored paint samples

for the calendar. She found the sample colors at Home Depot.

She had a 28"x 30" inch window.

She cut square pieces of paper 3 1/4"x 3 1/4" for the big write in days of the week. And then cut the pieces of paper for the top with the days of the week,

3 1/4"x 1 1/4" inches.

There was a gap 4 3/4" from the top of the frame of the window.
